Client Installation:

  • All versions of Windows from 95 up are supported.
  • There is one simple setup package for all versions of Windows. This installs all relevant system files (dll's, ocx's etc)

Network Environment:

  • The role/number of other Servers on the Network are not important as long as they do not interfere with the file services on the File Server/SQL Server. This would be in the form of Server Synchronisation or automated backups during the working day.
  • Terminal Services may be used to run Data Valley.
  • Data Valley has no requirement for a specific Network type (Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Token Ring etc) or Network mode (WINS/DHCP etc)

Network Environment (File Server):

  • The Filer Server should run a Server based operating system. This can be Windows NT4 Server or any version of Windows 2000/2003 Server. Data Valley will operate on a Novell Server but it is recommended that NT/2000 be used.
  • No special permissions are required to the server. The only requirement is a shared folder/drive to store the Data Valley software and associated databases.
  • The network should operate via TCP/IP and the Client machines should not be running the IPX protocol.
  • The role of the File Server (Primary Domain Controller, Secondary Domain Controller etc) is of no consequence to the operation of Data Valley.

Network Environment (SQL Server):

  • The Server must run a Server based operating system. This can be Windows NT4 Server or any version of Windows 2000/2003 Server.
  • SQL Standard Edition can be used for all Data Valley databases. The Enterprise edition of SQL Server may be used if already available but Data Valley does not require the massive scalability that this provides.
  • The Server should be dedicated to providing SQL Server services and not run other demanding services such as Exchange.
  • The ODBC Connections should be configured to use Named Pipes if external DNS Servers are configured.
